It is not an uncommon problem for people to set up a wireless connection in their home and still find it difficult to get a decent signal while trying to connect to the Internet. It is at this point that many seek to find what is known as a range extender. One of the newest range extenders to come to market is the Linksys RE1000 Wifi Repeater.

Overall, this Linksys device works exactly as promised though it does have one tiny drawback. A Wifi Repeater works by creating a bridge between a router and a computer. Basically, a router can only transmit a signal a finite total distance. This range will vary from product to product and exists in a sphere around the device. In other words, if it will only transmit forty feet left then it will also only transmit forty feet directly above the device. This becomes a problem in large homes in which the router is in the bottom left of a two story house and a computer is in the top right. Rarely will the computer get no signal but it will end up with a very low signal. The range extender acts as a bridge that captures the signal from the router and rebroadcasts it as a radio wave. This allows a computer that is in the same house but far away from the router to get a much stronger signal.

The only disadvantage of this system is that it can cause the data from the router to reach the entire system more slowly. What this means is that a computer that was already well within range of the router will experience a slower connection. That said, the computers that were nearly out of range will speed up much more than the other computers will slow down. It is a decision that each user in a house must make for themselves.

The Linksys RE1000 works exactly as it is designed to work. It is effective at grabbing the signal and retransmitting it further away. The setup is simple and is done through an included disk. This disk has a Setup Wizard that walks a user through the process of setting up the extender with little trouble or fuss. This new extender provides an even greater range while still providing security against people trying to steal a free connection from another location.

Overall, the Linksys RE1000 Wifi Repeater is a great buy. It works exactly as it is advertised and is simple to install. It does not come with complicated instructions or confusing processes. It can cause a slight slowdown in computers that were already near the router but the trade off is well worth the faster speeds in the other computers.

If a user needs to increase the strength or range of their wireless network, a Wifi repeater could be the simplest and most cost effective solution. Wifi repeaters are ideal for users that are having Wifi connectivity problems due to being in a building that has brick walls, has multiple floors that are built out of concrete, or by being at site that is bigger in area than the 1,000 foot square foot range of a typical wireless router.

When a Wifi repeater is installed, it “listens” for any Wifi broadcasts from existing Wifi routers or wireless network devices such as laptops and tablets. Any signal that is picked up by the repeater is then rebroadcast. In order to install a repeater, it simply needs to be to plugged into a power outlet. It can then be logged into by a computer on the network so that any login information and passwords that are required by the existing Wifi network can be set up on the repeater. This essentially creates a wireless network that is a duplicate of the one being broadcast by the original router.

To maximize the range of the repeater, it should be placed at the limit of broadcast range of the original router while still maintaining a quality connection. This will effectively double the effective range of the wireless network. Since users are connecting either to the original router or the repeater, computers will have to disconnect from one and reconnect to the other if they move back and forth between the broadcast range of each device. Wifi repeaters do not have to match the particular brand of the original router, and can be configured to work with many types of network addressing, security and sub-netting setups.

I was having problems with my system dropping packets, hence slow. I read the quick quide, followed the instructions and it worked like it said it would. My internet access is at least doubled in speed and does not drop off. Make sure your computer is set up for DHCP. When I disabled the wireless interface I had it setup for a fixed IP address, the NIC interface was also, so when I tried to start the setup it could not see the Ln300, once that was corrected everything ran like the instructions said would. Great product

This product is great – very easy to set up. I had an issue with my computer during set up, called the company, and they were fantastic in meeting my needs and getting me set up. Tried another repeater first…had to send it back because it was difficult to set up and had to be constantly reset. I’ll recommend this a hundred times over!

It absolutely was simple to set-up and acknowledged speedily by my lap-top, 5 minutes leading for set-up. I now have two iPhones, two lap-tops, Tv (wi-fi), desktop Pc, and BlueRay hooked as much as it. The 4 additional ports are priceless. Naturally not running all at the very same time, but acess continues to be perfect. I’ve done pace assessments and it’s speed is slightly slowly than authentic signal, although not by a lot. From my study this is often a typical trait of extenders. Only suprise was that it did not “extend” my network like my brain would think. As an alternative to choosing up a weak signal, strengthening and broadcasting, it acutally broadcasts as yet another SSID. Not too big of an problem immediately after inserting all of the protection passwords to the wireless components for the 1st time. After that, connection is transparent once the wireless gadgets choose up the strong signal. Highly recommend this wifi repeater product.

The Best Solution for Extending wifi Range, Jack, April 3, 2011

I purchased this since my router is at one particular finish with the house as well as the signal was as well weak to perform with a Netflix-capable BluRay player. I initially tried a powerline ethernet connection, but located that to be unreliable. The setup directions as well as the description of this device on line are somewhat confusing. It actually wasn’t challenging to create, but the instructions make it seem harder than it was. I got the impression which you could use this in one of two techniques: as a wireless extender to connect to other wireless devices or as a bridge for wired connections. But, it turns out which you can do both. Seeking back at the Amazon write-up on this I located that in compact print underneath among the photographs could be the statement that it operates as an extender as well as a bridge simultaneously. So, I was extremely pleased by this. One caution is that placement from the device is essential specially if you wish to use it as a bridge. The guidelines let you know to place it midway between your wireless router and what you’re trying to connect to. This can be simpler for those who just want to use it as an extender. As a bridge, you must take into account where your cables will want to run. I was able to locate a location that worked for me. One extra believed regarding the negative evaluations. I wonder if this product works most effective with newer routers. I have a brand new Linksys E3000. I’ve no idea whether or not older routers will function well with this. Just a believed for you personally to think about.

Excellent for most people, Sam, March 22, 2011

I bought the Netgrear wireless repeater and used it for about it week. I really was surprised how nicely it worked. We live in a duplex down, and I could barely obtain a wireless signal to our downstairs family space. I connected the assortment extender upstairs toward the front from the unit (our wireless router is within the back of the unit), and it worked great. Obtained full signal downstairs! The setup was type of a pain since at first you need to be completely out of vary of your wireless router. This was tough as we could obtain a lower signal just enough to cause problems. But ultimately acquired it up and operating and it worked terrific. I did end up returning the extender though as we had a difficult line towards the decrease degree. I had an individual set up a 2nd wireless router as an Access Level for your downstairs. This functions just at the same time and made use of our current additional wireless router. But I necessary an individual else to set this up for me. So I would say if you’re not as well technical with configuring routers, IP addressing, and so on, this is really a superior device. Performs extremely properly and setup is reasonably simple. I’d certainly suggest it!

A WiFi repeater, also called range extender is used to broaden the range of a wifi network. A WiFi repeater works by receiving the Wifi signal from a router and then amplify and rebroadcast it around locally. With a wifi repeater computers and printers that located out of the orginal range of access point can access the extended wifi network. Wifi repeater effectively doubles the coverage area of your existing Wifi network, extend your network to the far end of your home or office, It is a stand-alone unit you just need to place it half way between the PC and router.

A Wifi Signal Booster extends wireless network by raising the output power of your router by up to 500 mw which is more than 6 times of a standard one. Just simply take off your orignal wifi antenna and install the connector cable of the wifi signal booster then you are good to go.

In case you would like to borrow the signal from your neighbor or a cafe next to your home, however it’s too weak to receive and you don’t have the access to router for enhancing operation, you may consider buying a powerful high power wifi adapter to improve the signal reception.
